mainstage - MATURE THEMES AND LANGUAGE
Directed by Barbara Jacobs // June 12-21, 2026
A scandalous secret, a charming countryside escape, and a whole lot of unexpected visitors—The Cottage by Sandy Rustin is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud farce full of twists, turns, and tangled romances. Set in the English countryside in 1923, this stylish comedy of manners explodes when a woman boldly reveals her affair to her husband… and her lover's wife. Inspired by the works of Noël Coward, The Cottage is a cheeky romp where propriety takes a holiday and hilarity moves in.
The Cottage contains mature themes and language that may not be suitable for all audiences.

russ hughes as richard
Russ makes his Pensacola Little Theatre debut in The Cottage, marking his return to the stage after a decade-long hiatus that began sometime around high school graduation. When he’s not rediscovering his love of live theatre, Russ is a filmmaker and ASU student pursuing a Bachelor’s in Film Practices. He is endlessly grateful to the PLT family for welcoming him back into the fold, and to his wife and family, whose unwavering support makes it all possible, even the questionable decisions.
People think they know what they want, but often what one thinks they want isn’t really what it’s cracked up to be. Commit to the love of your life only to find out you don’t know that person at all. Sacrifice all that you have only to find what you want is unattainable. Spend years mourning a lost love to learn the loved one hadn’t been lost. Go to extremes to keep a love to find it was never yours. Face it! Fooling around with love or being a fool for love is risky. Add sex, and the whole thing becomes even more tangled. Add sibling rivalry, jealousy, unexpected visitors, alcohol, and a bit of Noel Cowardesque wit, and you arrive at The Cottage. You might be asking yourself, is love even worth it? After directing this delightful laugh romp, I’ve decided that nothing is permanent, none of us are perfect, love is a complicated delight, and a sense of humor is a necessity.
