What is a sensory friendly performance at Pensacola Little Theatre?
Our Sensory-Friendly Performances are designed for people who would like to attend live theater but may feel uncomfortable with the technical effects, seating limitations, or overwhelming atmosphere. We aim to create a judgment-free and safe environment for all people to become patrons of the arts.
This special performance will not be open to the general public but will be available for individuals with sensory sensitivities or a special need that makes attending a show at PLT challenging. Family members and caretakers are encouraged to attend. Tickets will be reserved so that each group has their own space.
During Sensory-Friendly Performances, audience members can freely leave their seats as needed during the performance, house lights will remain on, sound levels will be lowered, and the use of flashing lights will be reduced. A trained staff of volunteers will be present to accommodate the needs of those attending the performance.
We are producing a special sensory-friendly and accessible performance that welcomes all audiences to enjoy the fun in a supportive, inclusive environment—because theatre is for everyone, just like Junie B. would want it. The performance will be at 10:30 AM on April 11th. To book tickets please contact the Box Office at 850-432-2042 or by emailing Boxoffice@pensacolalittletheatre.com.
Why is inclusive theatre important?
Inclusive and sensory-friendly theatrical performances ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, neurodivergence, or sensory needs, can experience the joy and connection of live theatre. By adjusting elements like lighting, sound, and audience expectations, these performances remove barriers that often keep people from attending and fully participating. When theatre is welcoming and accessible, it not only broadens audiences but also strengthens communities by affirming that the arts are truly for all.
