FROM THE DIRECTOR

Director, Joe Nierle

Making sense of the world is a challenge we all face. How we sort it out is a combination of logic, fact, feelings, instinct, intelligence. In a situation of risk, we decide to move forward or to retreat. This is the story of 15-year-old Christopher who in his search for truth is faced with this choice.

Choosing risk requires coping skills; as a person on the spectrum, Christopher has coping skills unique to him. Maggie Zoller of the Autism Society of NC says, “If you met one person with autism, you have met one person with autism.” This is Christopher’s story, not the story of every autistic person.

To help the audience better understand Christopher’s world, the Ensemble reflects how he is experiencing, feeling, and seeing the world around him as he uses his logic, intellect, and instincts in his search for truth. -Joe Nierle

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Joe Nierle has directed over 90 productions for professional, educational, and community theatres. For PLT he directed Rumors and last season his own play, The Nebula of Georgia, that was voted People’s Choice Award for Outstanding production of a Studio 400 show. On stage at PLT he played Vanya in Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike and Donny in The Lieutenant of Inishmore.

MUSIC & LYRICS BY JASON ROBERT BROWN

BOOK BY DAN ELISH & ROBERT HORN

DIRECTED BY EDUCATION DIRECTOR TOPHER WARREN
MUSIC DIRECTED BY TOM BAROCO

After moving from New York City to Indiana, a 12-year-old navigates his parents' divorce, his impending bar mitzvah, and his new school's social circles.

Geek. Poser. Jock. Beauty Queen. Wannabe. These are the labels that can last a lifetime. With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) 13 is a musical about fitting in – and standing out!

Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents' divorce. Surrounded by an array of simpleminded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain... or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!?
