Founded in 2006 by Bill Whalen and Debi Dunkerley,
Lab Rats is Pensacola Little Theatre’s premier teen improv troupe.
The curriculum is designed to stretch the problem-solving and creativity skills of kids, to help bring them out of their shells to exude more confidence in person and on stage, and to sharpen their theatre skills overall.
But don't tell them that; they just think they're playing games.

Meet the Lab Rats Team!
Bill Whalen (Founding Director) is originally from Oklahoma and has called Pensacola home for 30 years. He is a professional real estate investor by day and in his spare time, involves himself with local theatre. Since 2005, he has been performing on stage in dramas, comedies, and musicals at Pensacola Little Theatre, Pensacola State College and the University of West Florida. Not only has Bill directed for the stage, but he has also taught acting and improvisation classes for both children and adults. He has studied and performed improv for over 10 years and directs Pensacola's professional improv troupe, IMPROVable Cause.
Debi Dunkerly (Founding Director) worked with Bill Whalen to develop the curriculum for Lab Rats. She has done improv theatre for 22 years and was the director of IMPROVable Cause for 10 years before turning it over one year ago. She has performed on stage at PLT, PSC, and UWF. She received her MSW from FSU.
Christina Cusack-Curbelo (Fall 2017 Instructor) is a Miami native who now calls Pensacola home. She is a singer-songwriter, actress, voice-over artist, and performing member of IMPROVable Cause, Pensacola's premier improv comedy troupe.
Kathleen Joyce (Lab Rats Assistant) has been an actor since childhood and has worked extensively in both theatre and film in the Pensacola area. An alumni of Lab Rats, herself, she is now a performing member of IMPROVable Cause.
