the hottest female impersonator in paris is a woman!

Victor/Victoria brings “Le Jazz Hot” to the Pensacola Little Theatre stage starting March 5.

Victoria is a struggling soprano who just bombed her audition at a tawdry Paris night club.  Toddy is a gay entertainer who is barely holding on to his own job at the same club.  When Toddy’s ex mistakes Victoria for a man, Toddy dreams up the perfect solution to their problems -- make Victoria a star as a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman. With “Victor” now the toast of the Parisian night club scene, complications and hilarity inevitably follow, especially when Chicago mobster King Marchan somehow finds himself falling for Victor.

Valerie Russenberger’s Curtain Call Productions is producing Victor/Victoria. Past Curtain Call Productions include Steel Magnolias, Neil Simon’s Rumors and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. The director is Michael Dennis, an experienced performer and choreographer and star of this season’s PLT production The Producers.

Victoria is played by Joanna Robbins Hayes, previously seen in The Producers, City of Angels,

and Pump Boys and Dinettes. Portraying Toddy is PLT Artistic Director Jerry Ahillen, who previously appeared in 1776, On The Town and Guys and Dolls. Additional cast members are John Drap, Scott Haring, Samantha Holsworth, A. Mark Palmer, Ed Spencer, Steve Vanderwerff, Amy Pearson, Carla Rhodes, Denley Messerly, Gavin Parmley, Katelyn Geri, Lani Brannon, Sara Collision, Becky Jordan, Ken Cunningham, Nathan Toepfer, Ronnie Jones, Sandi Knechtel and Skye Sanfilippo.

Thanks to our sponsors: Randall’s Men’s Formal Wear, Emerald City of Pensacola, and The Oar House Restaurant. We also appreciate the support of our media partners: AT&T Real Yellow Pages and Ballinger Publishing. PLT programs are made possible by a grant from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs.

beyond boundaries gets musical with new revue

In March, PLT’s Beyond Boundaries Outreach Program will debut a new musical revue that will entertain people of all ages. The goal of the program is to take theatre to people who may never have experienced a live stage show or who are not able to travel to Pensacola Little Theatre. In the coming weeks, residents of The Blake, Sterling House, and Specialty Center of Pensacola will have a chance to enjoy the show. In addition, Beyond Boundaries will provide free drama and dance workshops to qualifying organizations including Camp E-Ma-Chamee and ARC Gateway. Beyond Boundaries began with a grant from Impact 100 of Pensacola Bay Area, Inc. We are also grateful for the support of Whitney Bank.

auditions in march

It’s amazing how many people don’t realize that Pensacola Little Theatre is a community theatre that utilizes local volunteer talent onstage and back stage. Whether you’ve worked in theatre for years or just think it sounds like fun, we welcome you to try out for a role or volunteer to join the backstage crew. The two plays we’re holding auditions for this month are polar opposites.

12 Angry Jurors is a heavy drama about a group of jurors deliberating the fate of a young man accused of murdering his father. The play begins as the 12 file into the jury room and take the first vote. Eleven people vote guilty, but one person believes the case – and the fate of the accused – deserve more consideration. The director is Lawrence Gamell, Jr., who brings to PLT a wealth of professional acting and directing experience. Just check out his page on the Internet Movie Database.

Auditions for 12 Angry Jurors are March 8 & 9 at 7pm.

If comedy’s more your thing, our next auditions are for Run For Your Wife, a British farce about a bigamous cab driver who’s trying to keep his secret safe from both wives after he’s mugged and ends up in the hospital. The comedy keeps up a frantic pace that requires perfectly timed entrances and exits to keep audiences laughing. Directing the play is Maureen McNeill, an experienced performer who recently appeared at PLT in “The Women” and “Christmas Belles.”

Auditions for Run For Your Wife are March 22 and 23 at 7pm.

PROPERTIES COMMITTEE TO ORGANIZE  THE “CLOSET”

Volunteers needed to keep PLT’s prop collection in order

Regular Volunteer and Artistic Committee member Barbara Parker is taking on the huge project of getting the prop storage area organized, and she can’t do it alone. If you would like to be a part of this important effort, the first meeting and work day for the new Props Committee will be on Friday, March 5, at 10am in the main PLT Props room next to the Box Office.

Barbara says, “We're going to talk goals, review props spaces, and ‘put away’ stray props (aren't they all strays?).” She is open to suggestions and says, “as long as we get the job done, I'm very happy.” The plan is to work two or three hours on Friday and to set dates and times for future work sessions.

If you have any questions, feel free to call Barbara at 850-341-8002 or email her at pensacoladiva@gmail.com.

PLT’s NEW “NO SMOKING” POLICY

The ashtrays are gone from the main entrance on Jefferson Street. In consideration of the health and well-being of patrons, employees, and volunteers, the Pensacola Cultural Center created smoke-free zones around our entrances beginning January 1, 2010. Ashtrays have been moved to our new designated smoking area on Zaragoza Street, just east of the Gallery.
