STSC is geared toward the education and enlightenment of its young actors. The Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company offers its audiences and its actors not only an opportunity to enrich their theatrical experiences, but a chance to celebrate the art of the marvelous English language, the beauty of poetry, human expression, morality, the tragedy of man’s in humanity to man, and human redemption through honor, honesty, and integrity.

About the Company

The Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company is a new addition to Pensacola Little Theatre’s Treehouse Theatre Division. Founded in the fall of 2005, STSC is the first Shakespearean contemporary teen acting company in the Gulf Coast area. The Company consists of actors between the ages of 13 and 17 years. Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company is made up of activities in the following area:

Performance
Training
Education
Management
Academia/Research
Development/Entrepreneurism

STSC is dedicated to performing quality productions of Shakespeare and learning about the play, the playwright and theatre. To this end, the company is highly involved in every aspect of the production, from selecting and editing the play, to publicity, sets and costumes. With the guidance of the director, Company members will get a chance to be on the other side of the table with roles in directing, casting, set design, light design, dramaturgy, and stage management. Cast members will also help organize publicity, design the programs, build the sets, and find props and costumes. By getting involved in the whole production the cast is able to better appreciate and understand theatre and Shakespeare.

Statement of Vision

To establish a theatre company for the youth of unprecedented excellence that is education based and will cater to its company members by both educating and entertaining in a workshop style fashion. The primary goals of the company are to teach students to listen, discern, and think both critically and creatively increasing students’ cultural awareness through the Elizabethan ideals of inquiry, balance, and harmony, performing as the Elizabethans did – in love with poetry, physical prowess and the mysteries of the universe. STSC will provide its members and the community with both classic and contemporary theatrical productions of artistic excellence. STSC hopes to challenge its audiences and actors with both innovative and didactic productions.

Funding and Sponsorships

The Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company falls under the jurisdiction of the Pensacola Little Theatre, a 501 C-3 non-profit organization. The Company will adhere to the Bylaws of Pensacola Little Theatre’s Treehouse Theatre division. STSC will fall under the supervision of the Education section of the Pensacola Little Theatre and will be supervised by the current Education Director. Funds may be distributed through the education department under control of the Pensacola Little Theatre’s Executive Director. As STSC grows, grants may be written to help support the events and productions of the company. Special events may be fundraised or supported by sponsorships via the company director. Because of the nature of the company and its education based core, those company members not involved with PLT’s Treehouse classes will be required to pay dues. Fees will be set annually by the Education Director of the Pensacola Little Theatre.

Company Events and Performances

Once cast, members of the Company and their legal guardians will be required to sign consent forms complying with the Company’s schedule, performances, and events. This consent falls under the bylaws of the Pensacola Little Theatre’s Treehouse Theatre division. STSC will have one full-scale production each year at the end of the spring. Fall events will include performing at arts festivals in the southeastern area such as the Greater Gulf Coast Arts Festival in November. The Company will put on a monologue showcase once a year in December. This showcase will be used as a fundraising staple for all Company members.
