EDUCATION DIRECTOR

Katie McHugh is the Education Director of Pensacola Little Theatre. She studied European theatre for a semester in London and received her BA in theatre from Florida State University School of Theatre in 2001. Katie has been with PLT since 2003 and is known for her enthusiasm and passion for her students and curriculum. In 2006, she founded the Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company, the only one of its kind in the United States. Summer 2007, Katie is serving on the faculty of the Acting Shakespeare Teen Summer Intensive at the Actors Movement Studio in Manhattan, New York. She is taking a group of students from Pensacola Little Theatre with her to experience the variety of workshops led by master teachers.

TREEHOUSE THEATRE ACTING CLASSES

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The primary purpose of the Education Program is to provide young people opportunities to explore and develop their interests and lay a solid foundation in all aspects of theatre arts. Through classes, plays and workshops, students learn in a hands-on environment. Classes and workshops promote self confidence, communication, creativity and service, as well as giving students the necessary skills to grow as artists, actors, technicians and people. Our mission is for each child in our program to find his or her voice and sense of play in a non-competitive atmosphere.

REGISTERING FOR A CLASS

Enrollment is limited and classes fill quickly. We recommend students sign up for as many sessions as possible when registering. Download Registration Form (pdf).

GENERAL INFORMATION

CLASS FEES
Class fees must accompany the registration form. If you register for more than one session of a particular class, you may pay for all the sessions at once or just the first one. If you need to drop out before a session starts, you can get a refund for that session. Payment for later sessions is due by the date listed on your confirmation card. If you have not paid by that date, PLT has the right to remove your child’s name from the roster. Refunds will only be given before the first class in a session starts. Fees for performance classes are not due until the first class in the session.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
We expect students to attend class regularly and on time. Since much of the class work is focused on building an ensemble, it is imperative that all the team members be present. If a student must miss a class due to a conflict or illness, please notify the instructor or Youth Education Theatre Director as early as possible.

LATE PICK-UP POLICY
Students must be picked up promptly at the end of class. There is a 5-minute grace period after each class. Because we value our instructors’ time, students picked up after the 5-minute grace period will be charged a $5.00 per 5-minute fee, billed to the student’s parents or guardians. No students under the age of 18 may be left unattended on PLT property. If outstanding late fees are due, your child will not be permitted to begin the next quarter until they are paid.

OPEN CLASSROOMS
Open Classrooms are informal presentations of the materials learned by students during a session. Held on the last day of class, parents, friends and family are invited to attend. “Invitations” will be sent home prior to each Open Classroom.

CLASS SCHEDULES
Pensacola Little Theatre follows the Escambia County Public School System schedule for holidays whenever possible. Sometimes classes meet on teacher workdays. Assume your child has class unless a break is noted in the course description on this Web site and in the Education Program brochure.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
In the event of inclement weather, please call the theatre at 850/434-0257 to find out whether or not classes have been cancelled. Since our classes are usually held during the afternoon, schools may have to cancel while we do not. In the event classes are cancelled, PLT will schedule make-up classes as quickly as possible.

All classes are held in the Lew Taylor Rehearsal Hall on the second floor of the Pensacola Cultural Center.
